Thunderbird has recently announced its plans for its major debut into the smartphone market. It concerns the K-9 Mail program, and it's great news for open-source and productivity fans both.
K-9 Mail's trademark rights and source code, including its GitHub repository, have been acquired by Mozilla. This implies that Thunderbird will be based on the tried-and-true K-9 program, which many open-source enthusiasts are already acquainted with. Christian Ketterer, the project maintainer of K-9 Mail, is joining the Thunderbird team to help with the move.
